TMSA Receives Approval to Open a New K-8 Schools in Apex

Cary, NC - The North Carolina Board of Education has approved TMSA Public Charter Schools' application to open a new K-8 charter school in Apex, NC for the 2022-2023 school year.

"It is great news that we are a step closer to provide TMSA's excellent and equitable STEM education for more students in North Carolina," said TMSA Superintendent Ben Karaduman. "On behalf of our entire community, I wish to thank the State Board of Education for approving two TMSA projects recently."

Last month, the State Board of Education approved TMSA's request to relocate the high school students of Triangle Math and Science Academy (TMSA Cary) to a new campus in Apex for the 2022-2023 school year. TMSA Cary has a growing waitlist of over 2,000 students.

After the relocation, TMSA Cary will only serve elementary and middle school students.

TMSA's Apex Campus will be stretching across 21 acres of land at 400 New Hill Olive Chapel Road in Apex. "We are performing our necessary due diligence procedure with the City of Apex," said the Superintendent.

Apex Mayor Jacques Gilbert has also endorsed TMSA's Apex Campus Project. "This project aligns well with the mission of our town leadership, offers more opportunities for youth and community to thrive," said Apex Mayor Jacques Gilbert during Superintendent Karaduman's visit to the Mayor last month.

The new campus will accommodate up to 800 high school students and 900 K-8 students in environmentally friendly high-tech school buildings along with gymnasiums and outdoor fields. It will also host TMSA Central Office along with a professional learning and conference center.

"The new campus will be like a three-dimensional textbook: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics will come alive for the students," said TMSA's Deputy Superintendent Eray Idil. "It will also be a center for the community that provides a place for people to meet and develop new ideas."

TMSA has brought a dynamic of change to the quality of education in North Carolina since 2008. They provide a high-quality and enriching education that equips students with 21st-century skills in a safe, nurturing, and culturally responsive learning environment.

TMSA includes Greensboro's Triad Math and Science Academy, Cary's Triangle Math and Science Academy, and Charlotte's Queen City STEM School.

TMSA was among the first in North Carolina to transition to remote instruction right after the COVID-19 outbreak in March 2020. More than 90% of the parents expressed high rates of satisfaction with the quality of TMSA's remote instruction during these challenging times.

TMSA has begun to offer in-person instruction since March 15 for the families who want the option of returning to in-person learning. In addition to implementing the CDC's COVID-19 safety protocols, all TMSA schools have installed "REME Halo" in-duct air purification systems that tremendously improve indoor air quality to a level comparable with surgical rooms at hospitals. It is the only laboratory-proven system to reduce SARS-CoV-2 present in the environment by 99.9%.
